SPONSOR A CHILD PDF E-mail

Welcome to our sponsor-a-child page. Here you may:

  • browse through the details of some of the children we care for at the Noah's Ark Centre
  • view our frequently asked questions
  • download and print a sponsorship form for posting
  • submit an on-line request to sponsor

Sponsorship starts at £10 a month ( that works out at less than 33p a day ).

Please visit the Support Us page to see what your sponsorship can achieve.

We hope after prayerful consideration you will be led to sponsor a child on a regular basis; either by selecting a child, allowing Nasio to do so for you, or by contacting us with a specific request.

Before going ahead, please read the frequently asked questions.

As a sponsor, you give a monthly gift, which is combined with other donations and used to fund our work at the day care centre which your sponsored child attends. It provides for their basic needs: food; medical care; education.

  • You will receive a Welcome Kit that includes photos of your sponsored child, information about his/her family, and details on how your sponsored child will benefit from sponsorship.
  • Regular statements from The Nasio Trust with helpful points on how to get the most out of your child sponsorship.
  • Once a term you will receive a letter directly from your sponsored child introducing the child and his/her family.
  • You will receive an Annual report card on your child's well-being and education.

Sponsorship starts at £10 a month - that works out at less than 33p a day. 100% of this money is spent directly at our centres.

In addition, thanks to the government's Gift Aid scheme, if you are a UK taxpayer, The Nasio Trust can reclaim the tax paid on your donations - increasing the value by about a third at no extra cost to you.

You may select a child from the Sponsor-a-Child pages; or you may allow The Nasio Trust to select one for you; or you may call 01865 820476 to make a specific request and we will do our best to help.

If your circumstances change and you can no longer sponsor a child, we will understand. We will, however, need to find another sponsor for the child as soon as we can. So the only thing that we ask is that you let us know.

The sponsorship money you send is added to that of other people who sponsor children at the Day Care Centre where your child attends. Your support enables The Nasio Trust to provide benefits such as health care and daily food for the children, and to pay staff salaries.

There is no set age limit for children in our sponsorship program. A child may be in his or her late teens but still need to continue attending school or learning a trade. Also, in Kenya, as in many African countries, children may begin going to school when they are a little older than we are accustomed to in the UK. As long as a sponsored child is in a project associated with The Nasio Trust, he or she continues receiving assistance.

We will notify you when your sponsored child is able to work and earn a living, or when the family no longer needs help. At that time, we will offer the opportunity for you to sponsor another child.

The goal of The Nasio Trust child sponsorship scheme is to support a child until that happy day is reached when sponsorship is no longer necessary. This is the day when the child is ready to move on in life with hope for the future, healthy, educated and trained.

That is the time when a sponsor is offered the opportunity to sponsor another little boy or girl and provide the assistance that child and his or her community needs to become more self-reliant.

The length of sponsorship will be different for each child. That's because sponsorship is affected by many factors: the child's age when sponsorship begins, the family and community's circumstances, progress in the sponsorship project, and more.

One of the most satisfying experiences of sponsorship is watching your child become healthy and self-reliant, and leaving sponsorship behind. That's the moment when you can take the hand of another child who needs your help.

Many sponsors have helped change the life of one child after another. As many sponsors tell us, "Once you sponsor, you'll never want to stop!"

We understand your desire to send packages to your sponsored child or that you would like to remember your child in a special way. You are welcome to do so by enclosing small items in letters to your child or in an envelope no larger than 6 by 9 inches. Some items that children will enjoy for many months are ribbons, bookmarks, picture postcards, and other flat, inexpensive items. But please do not send them large gifts. In a poor community like Mumias, it would be unfair to single out a particular child with a gift, which may prove to be culturally inappropriate and may incur customs charges. You are also welcome to send messages to the child you are sponsoring.

Please note The Nasio Trust has a policy not to accept packages for the following reasons:

  • Complexity of foreign postal regulations
  • High duty charges in Kenya
  • Slow delivery
  • Possibility of loss, theft, or damage
  • Singling out one child among others

Meeting your sponsored child face-to-face can be an exciting and moving experience for both of you. If you ever wish to do so, we're here to help you. The Nasio Trust will do their best to arrange your visit and help prepare you for your trip. With our help it will be a very rewarding experience.
