I visited Kenya first in 2009 when I met a happy, giggly but shy little 3 year old called Sharon; she came to play with me every time we went to Noah’s Ark and, upon finding out she had no sponsor, I was pleased to take on the role.

In a fantastic piece of news to kick off the new year, we’re excited and proud to tell you that Esther has graduated secondary education with the grades she needs to pursue a medical qualification at university.
Education is the single most powerful weapon we have in the fight to break the cycle of poverty. Esther is the very first Nasio-supported girl to go on to higher education.

In a historic move on December 18th 2019, all 193 member states of the United Nations have formally recognised that orphanages don’t protect children, they harm them, and have called for the progressive elimination of institutional care globally.
Supporters of the Nasio Trust will be aware that our proven model of caring for disadvantaged children in a family-like environment (using a network of amazing Nasio guardians) is a direct reaction to the harm caused by institutionalised care.

This summer I spent a month volunteering in Kenya with The Nasio Trust – an amazing experience that gave me the opportunity to get to know 11 Nasio families.
After many home visits, a few jigger treatments and volunteering at the Nasio medical centre, St Mary's hospital and visiting a local Government hospital, I was particularly interested in maximising access to healthcare, especially for our most vulnerable families.
